Istanbul, Turkey – Fenerbahçe have made significant progress in their ongoing talks to sign striker Jhon Durán, with negotiations intensifying on Sunday.
The deal to bring the Colombian international to the Turkish giants is reportedly “getting closer,” indicating that Durán’s brief spell at Al Nassr is effectively “over.”
All parties involved – Fenerbahçe, Al Nassr, and Durán’s representatives – are said to be confident of receiving the final green light soon, suggesting an agreement is imminent.
Durán, 21, only joined Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in January from Aston Villa in a high-profile move, but his time in Saudi Arabia has been short-lived.
Despite scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances for Al Nassr, reports suggest he has struggled to settle both on and off the pitch and is keen on a return to European football.
Jose Mourinho, Fenerbahçe’s new manager, has reportedly played a direct role in convincing Durán to make the move to Turkey.
Fenerbahçe’s pursuit of Durán comes as they look to significantly strengthen their squad under Mourinho, aiming to challenge for the Süper Lig title and compete in European competitions.
While the exact terms of the deal are yet to be fully revealed, earlier reports suggested Fenerbahçe were eyeing a loan deal, potentially covering a substantial portion of his wages. Other reports have indicated a permanent transfer is on the cards.
The impending transfer would mark another high-profile acquisition for Fenerbahçe this summer, showcasing their ambition under Mourinho’s guidance.
It would also bring to an end Durán’s short and somewhat surprising chapter in Saudi Arabia, offering him a fresh start in a competitive European league.
