Madrid, Spain – UEFA has announced the opening of an investigation into the post-match celebrations of Real Madrid players Antonio Rüdiger, Dani Ceballos, Kylian Mbappé, and Vinicius Jr following their Champions League victory against Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The investigation comes in response to reports and visual evidence of potentially improper conduct by the players after their win.
While UEFA has not specified the exact nature of the allegations, reports suggest that gestures made by the players towards the Atlético Madrid supporters are under scrutiny.
Television footage and social media posts reportedly show Rüdiger making a throat-slitting gesture, while Mbappé was allegedly seen making a crotch-grabbing gesture. Vinicius Jr and Ceballos are also being investigated for their conduct towards the home fans.
Atlético Madrid are reported to have filed a complaint with UEFA regarding the celebrations.
UEFA has appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to conduct the investigation. If the players are found to have breached UEFA’s disciplinary regulations, they could face potential sanctions, which might include fines or suspensions.
