Bournemouth have moved with lightning speed to secure their next chapter. As of Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Cherries have reached a full agreement to appoint Marco Rose as their new head coach starting this June.

The "Rose Revolution" on the South Coast: Bournemouth Agree Deal to Appoint Marco Rose

The move comes just 48 hours after the club officially confirmed that Andoni Iraola will depart at the end of the season, bringing a highly successful three-year tenure to a close.

The Details of the Deal

  • The Appointment: Rose will take over first-team duties on July 1, 2026.
  • The Contract: While the final paperwork is being approved today, the deal is expected to run until June 2029.
  • The Search: Bournemouth owner Bill Foley and director of football Tiago Pinto reportedly had a three-man shortlist that included Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, but Rose’s availability and tactical profile made him the “perfect fit.”

Why Marco Rose?

Rose has been unattached since leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025 and brings a level of European pedigree rarely seen at the Vitality Stadium.

  • Tactical Continuity: Like Iraola, Rose is a disciple of high-intensity pressing and “heavy metal” attacking football. The Bournemouth board viewed him as the ideal candidate to evolve the “Iraola-ball” identity rather than tear it down.
  • Pedigree: With experience at Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and RB Salzburg, Rose brings significant Champions League experience to a club currently knocking on the door of European qualification themselves.

The End of the Iraola Era

The announcement marks the end of a bittersweet week for Bournemouth fans. Iraola, who famously led the club to its highest-ever Premier League finish (9th) last season and recently masterminded a 2-1 victory over leaders Arsenal, has decided to step away at the “right moment.”

“It has been an honour to manage AFC Bournemouth,” Iraola said in his farewell statement. “I am proud of what we have achieved together. I feel this is the right moment for me to step away, but I will always carry fantastic memories of this club.”

Iraola has already been heavily linked with the vacant Manchester United job and a return to Athletic Bilbao, though he insists he has not yet chosen his next destination.

What’s Next?

With the managerial succession now settled, Bournemouth can focus on a historic end to the 2025-26 campaign. Currently sitting 11th but just three points off the top six, the Cherries are still firmly in the hunt for a maiden European spot.

Marco Rose is expected to be in the stands for the final home game of the season against Brighton on May 17 to get a first-hand look at his new squad.
