After a nine-year journey at the Santiago Bernabéu, Dani Ceballos is officially set to depart Real Madrid this summer.

The End of an Era: Dani Ceballos Set to Leave Real Madrid

The news, which has gained significant traction over the past 48 hours, confirms that the 29-year-old midfielder will leave the Spanish capital upon the expiry of his contract.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that communication has already been established between several clubs and the player’s camp, with the midfielder now weighing his options for his next chapter.

Why Is He Leaving?

The decision is a culmination of a frustrating season where the Spaniard has struggled for consistent minutes in a highly competitive midfield.

  • Playing Time: Ceballos has been restricted to just 810 minutes across 22 appearances in all competitions this season, mostly arriving as a substitute.
  • Squad Restructuring: Real Madrid is currently undergoing a strategic shift to modernize and refresh their squad, making the departure of long-term rotation players like Ceballos a necessary step to clear space for new signings.
  • Mutual Understanding: Both the player and the club view this summer as the right time to part ways, allowing Ceballos to seek a starting role elsewhere and providing the club with the flexibility to reinvest in their midfield core.

Who Is Interested?

While several teams are monitoring his situation, Ajax has emerged as the clear frontrunner. Their new technical director, Jordi Cruyff, is reportedly keen to make Ceballos a cornerstone of his squad overhaul in Amsterdam as the Dutch giants look to rebuild following a difficult domestic campaign. Two other unnamed European clubs are also in active talks, awaiting the official opening of the transfer window.

A Decorated Legacy

Ceballos leaves behind a trophy-laden legacy that few players can match. Since arriving from Real Betis in 2017, he has:

  • Made 214 appearances for Los Blancos.
  • Won 15 major trophies, including three Champions League titles and two La Liga titles.
  • Provided experience and tactical intelligence, even during his two-year loan spell at Arsenal (2019–2021).

As the summer approaches, the focus now turns to where Ceballos will choose to take his talents, with his exit marking the end of a pivotal chapter in his professional career.
