Manchester City’s operational strategy for the upcoming summer transfer window remains completely unbothered by the impending dugout transition.

Despite the emotional departure of Pep Guardiola and the arrival of Enzo Maresca, the club’s hierarchy has maintained a completely unified stance since March: Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is the absolute priority target.

While social media and select European outlets have heavily linked Maresca with a reunion with Chelsea star Enzo Fernández, senior club sources have firmly shut down the rumors.

The Standout State of Play

The Main Objective: Elliot Anderson remains the singular name at the top of City’s midfield shortlist. The 23-year-old’s immense carrying power, vertical progression, and tactical maturity for Forest have convinced City’s sporting structure that he is the perfect centerpiece for their upcoming engine-room rebuild.

The Enzo Fernández Myth: Despite Fernández’s incredibly close bond with Maresca during their time together at Stamford Bridge—culminating in him being handed the captain’s armband—no talks have taken place between Manchester City and Chelsea. City are actively looking at different profiles to reshape their central dynamics.

The Contract Offer: City are prepared to flex their financial muscle to win the race, preparing a massive, long-term contract offer for Anderson to convince him to choose the Etihad over a fierce, aggressive push from Michael Carrick’s Manchester United.

A Massive Summer Battle Brewing:

Securing Anderson will not be a simple negotiation. Nottingham Forest and manager Vítor Pereira are fully aware of the diamond they possess, slapping a massive valuation in excess of €120 million (£105m+) on the England international. Should a deal cross the line at that price point, it has the potential to shatter the all-time British transfer record currently held by Declan Rice.

Manchester United are reportedly “calling and calling” Anderson’s representatives to hijack the move, using their confirmed Champions League status as a primary selling point.

However, City currently hold a distinct advantage. Beyond their massive financial capability, the club boasts a highly productive working relationship with the Forest hierarchy, having facilitated multiple deals across the last twelve months. With Rodri and Mateo Kovačić entering the final year of their respective contracts, City view Anderson as a completely non-negotiable piece of business to kick off the Maresca era with a statement.
