A bombshell report has sent shockwaves through the Spanish capital today, as allegations surface that Real Madrid’s medical team committed a “catastrophic” error by examining the wrong knee during Kylian Mbappé’s initial injury assessment.

BREAKING: Real Madrid examined the WRONG knee in their initial tests of Kylian Mbappé’s injury.

According to French journalist Daniel Riolo of RMC Sport, and later backed by Miguel Ángel Díaz of Cadena COPE, the club’s medical staff reportedly focused their tests on Mbappé’s right knee when the player was actually suffering from a sprain in his left knee.

The mistake is being described as an “absolute disgrace” for a club of Madrid’s stature. The timeline suggests this blunder occurred following an injury in late 2025.

Because of the initial misdiagnosis, Mbappé reportedly continued to play through persistent pain in early 2026, unknowingly risking a career-threatening escalation of the injury.

The Road to Recovery in Paris

Frustrated by the lack of progress and the ongoing discomfort, Mbappé eventually traveled to Paris to seek a second opinion from renowned knee specialist Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet. It was there that the left knee sprain was correctly identified.

Fortunately, the specialist determined that surgery was not necessary and instead implemented a strict muscle-strengthening program. Mbappé has since confirmed he feels “100% recovered,” a relief for both Real Madrid fans and the French national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Internal Fallout

The consequences at Valdebebas have been swift and severe. Reports indicate that this “worse than catastrophic” error was the primary reason Real Madrid fired its entire medical staff in January.

While the club initially pointed to a general “string of injuries” as the reason for the overhaul, insiders now claim the Mbappé situation was the true breaking point that led to the return of Dr. Niko Mihic as head of the medical department.

Mbappé addressed the media this week, expressing his relief: “My knee is fine. I was fortunate to find the correct diagnosis when I went to Paris. A lot of things have been said that weren’t true, but I am ready for the final stretch of the season.”

Real Madrid now heads into the business end of the season with their star man fit, but with their medical reputation under heavy fire.
