FLORENCE, ITALY – ACF Fiorentina has officially sacked head coach Stefano Pioli with immediate effect, concluding his second, ill-fated spell at the club.
The decision, which had been widely anticipated following weeks of mounting pressure, was confirmed by the club in a statement this morning.
Zero Wins in Ten Games Seals Pioli’s Fate
The ultimate catalyst for the immediate dismissal was the club’s catastrophic domestic form. Fiorentina has failed to secure a single victory in the opening ten Serie A games of the season, registering four draws and six losses.
This historic run of poor results leaves the Viola languishing near the bottom of the table, deep in the relegation mire. The final straw proved to be the weekend’s agonizing 1-0 defeat at home to Lecce.
The club issued a statement thanking Pioli and his staff for their professionalism, but stressed that the change was necessary to revive the club’s campaign.
Contract Severance and Immediate Replacement
Pioli, who was only appointed in July 2025, had reportedly refused to resign, forcing the club’s board to negotiate a termination of his contract.
That agreement has now been finalized, allowing the club to move forward quickly.
Fiorentina confirmed that Under-20s coach Daniele Galloppa has been appointed to take charge of the first team on an interim basis, effective immediately.
Galloppa led the first-team training session this afternoon and will guide the team through their upcoming fixtures, including a UEFA Conference League match against Mainz on Thursday.
Search for Pioli’s Successor Heats Up
The club’s management, including Technical Director Roberto Goretti, is now accelerating the search for a permanent coach to oversee the necessary turnaround.
Early reports suggest former Empoli coach Roberto D’Aversa is the leading candidate to take over, highly regarded for his ability to organize teams quickly. Other names reportedly in contention include Paolo Vanoli.
