Turin, Italy – Douglas Luiz’s future at Juventus appears increasingly uncertain after the Brazilian midfielder reportedly failed to show up for the club’s pre-season training today.
The unauthorized absence has put him on a collision course with the club, which is now set to take disciplinary measures against him.
Juventus’s first-team squad was due to report for medical check-ups and the initial phase of pre-season preparations at the Continassa training facility on Thursday.
While new signings like Jonathan David and Francisco Conceicao were absent due to ongoing paperwork, Luiz’s no-show has no official justification, according to Italian media.
This development strongly suggests that the 27-year-old is actively pushing for a move away from the Turin giants this summer.
Douglas Luiz joined Juventus just last year from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth €50 million, but his debut season was plagued by injuries and he struggled to replicate his Premier League form, failing to score or assist in 27 appearances and missing 20 games due to various ailments.
He also only played 45 minutes in the recent FIFA Club World Cup.
New Juventus coach Igor Tudor reportedly does not view Luiz as a central part of his plans for the upcoming season.
Consequently, Juventus has made it clear that the Brazil international is available on the market and is keen to offload him to avoid a capital loss, reportedly aiming for a sale of at least €40 million.
Interest from several Premier League clubs has re-emerged, with Everton, West Ham United, and Nottingham Forest all linked with his services.
Reports indicate that Luiz’s agent is currently in England this week to explore potential opportunities and engage in talks with interested parties.
