NICE, France – OGC Nice captain Dante has cemented his place in European football history, becoming the oldest ever outfield player to feature in a Europa League match.
The Brazilian defender, at 41 years and 341 days old, set the new record in his side’s Europa League opener against AS Roma.
The veteran defender has had a remarkable career that has spanned more than two decades, with his longevity allowing him to surpass the previous record holder for outfield players.
While the overall record for the oldest player in the competition still belongs to English goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who played at 42 years old in 2013, Dante’s achievement is a testament to his fitness and enduring quality at the highest level of the game.
