Bayern Munich’s breakout star Lennart Karl is set for a significant spell on the sidelines.

The club officially confirmed on Friday, April 10, 2026, that the 18-year-old playmaker suffered a muscle fiber tear in his right hamstring during training.

The injury comes at a devastating time for the youngster, who has been one of the biggest “winners” under Vincent Kompany this season.

The Recovery Timeline

While Bayern did not provide a definitive return date, stating only that he is out “for the foreseeable future,” early medical reports from Sky Germany suggest:

  • Expected Outage: Approximately three weeks.
  • Key Matches Missed:
  • Bundesliga: vs. St. Pauli (Saturday, April 11).
  • UCL Quarter-Final (2nd Leg): vs. Real Madrid (Wednesday, April 15).
  • DFB-Pokal Semi-Final: vs. Bayer Leverkusen (April 22).
  • Bundesliga: vs. Stuttgart (April 19).

A Massive Void in the Squad

Karl has enjoyed a sensational debut season with the senior squad, stepping up brilliantly while Jamal Musiala was sidelined earlier in the campaign. His impact has been elite for a player of his age:

  • 2025–26 Stats: 9 goals and 6 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
  • Record Breaker: Became the youngest Bayern player to score in the Champions League (17y 242d) against Club Brugge in October.
  • National Impact: Made his senior Germany debut under Julian Nagelsmann just last month.

Tactical Shift for Kompany

With Karl unavailable, Vincent Kompany will likely lean even more heavily on a fully fit Jamal Musiala and Thomas Müller for the upcoming Champions League showdown. Bayern currently hold a 2-1 lead heading into the second leg against Real Madrid, but losing Karl’s clinical edge (he has 4 goals in 7 UCL games this term) is a significant blow to their bench depth.
For Karl, the focus now shifts to a “cautious recovery” to ensure he is fit for the final weeks of the season and Germany’s 2026 World Cup campaign this summer.
