Wolverhampton, UK – In a deeply moving ceremony, Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club has inducted Portuguese international Diogo Jota into their esteemed Hall of Fame.
The decision, made swiftly and unanimously by the independent Hall of Fame committee chaired by Wolves legend John Richards, serves as a poignant tribute that honours both Jota’s remarkable achievements for the club and the profound impact of his recent, untimely passing on the world of football.
Diogo Jota, along with his younger brother André, tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain on July 3, 2025, sending shockwaves across the global football community.
The decision to induct Jota into the Hall of Fame so soon after his death is a rare and heartfelt gesture, reflecting the overwhelming sadness and respect felt by supporters and the wider football community.
During his time at Molineux between 2017 and 2020, Jota became a fan favourite, instrumental in Wolves’ triumphant return to the Premier League under Nuno Espírito Santo and their subsequent strong performances in the top flight, including a run to the Europa League quarter-finals.
He scored 44 goals in 131 appearances for the club, showcasing his exceptional talent and relentless work rate.
“There is such a feeling of sadness and disbelief around this awful tragedy that we wanted to make this tribute of our own as soon as we could,” said John Richards, Wolves Hall of Fame chairman and club vice-president.
“We remember what a wonderful player Diogo was for Wolves during that unforgettable promotion season… His record of 44 goals at Wolves, and then 65 at Liverpool as a Premier League title winner, speaks volumes.”
Wolves Director of Football Administration, Matt Wild, echoed these sentiments, stating, “This is a moving gesture and one the club fully supports.
Diogo was not only a phenomenal footballer, but someone who carried himself with humility and kindness throughout his time at Wolves, and will be sorely missed by all of us.
His legacy here is etched into our history, and we are proud to see him recognised in this way.”
The club has also confirmed that further tributes to Diogo and André will be held at two of Wolves’ upcoming home fixtures: the final pre-season friendly against Celta Vigo and the opening Premier League match against Manchester City, with major commemorations planned for the latter.
This induction into the Hall of Fame serves as a permanent memorial to a player who left an indelible mark on Wolverhampton Wanderers and touched the hearts of football fans far beyond Molineux.
