The Uzbekistan Football Federation (UFA) has made an official approach to legendary Italian defender and former Ballon d’Or winner, Fabio Cannavaro, regarding the vacant head coach position for the national team.
Discussions are reportedly underway with the 2006 World Cup-winning captain, signaling a major push by the UFA to appoint an elite, experienced figure to lead their ambitious football project.
Uzbekistan’s move comes as the nation seeks to elevate its standing on the global stage, having previously considered other high-profile managers like Joachim Löw and Paulo Bento.
Securing Cannavaro—the only defender in the 21st century to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or—would be a statement of serious intent, aiming to inject world-class defensive discipline and a winning mentality into the squad ahead of critical qualifying campaigns.
