London, UK – As anticipated for the past ten days, Thomas Partey officially leaves Arsenal today, June 30, upon the expiration of his contract.
The Ghanaian midfielder departs the Emirates Stadium as a free agent, bringing an end to his five-year spell with the Gunners.
Despite a resurgence in form during the 2024/25 campaign, which saw him make 52 appearances across all competitions, negotiations for a new deal failed to reach an agreement.
Arsenal had reportedly offered an extension, but terms could not be settled, leading to the decision for Partey, 32, to seek a new challenge.
His departure has paved the way for Arsenal to accelerate their midfield reinforcements. Christian Nørgaard, the experienced Danish international from Brentford, is now set to join the Gunners.
Reports indicate that Nørgaard has already undergone his medical at Arsenal, and a deal, believed to be around £9.3 million (€11 million) with potential add-ons, has been agreed between Arsenal and Brentford.
Nørgaard, 31, is expected to provide valuable experience, tactical awareness, and leadership to Mikel Arteta’s midfield, filling the void left by Partey and also by Jorginho, who recently moved to Flamengo.
His arrival, alongside the anticipated signings of Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga, signifies Arsenal’s proactive approach to strengthening their squad for the upcoming season.
