The long wait is finally over for Culés. In what is being hailed as the most significant “signing” of the spring, Gavi has officially received the medical green light and has been included in the squad for tomorrow’s La Liga match against Sevilla at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been sidelined for nearly seven months after suffering a complex meniscus injury in his right knee back in late August.

After undergoing arthroscopic surgery in September and a grueling rehabilitation process, the “engine” of Barcelona’s midfield is ready to step back onto the grass.

Flick’s Cautious Optimism

During Saturday’s pre-match press conference, manager Hansi Flick confirmed the news that every Barcelona fan had been waiting for, while also preaching a message of patience.

“He’s finally got the green light,” Flick told reporters. “He has been training at a very high level for the last few weeks, and the medical staff are happy. We hope Gavi can eventually play some minutes tomorrow, but we will not rush him. It’s about the feeling he has on the pitch.”

Midfield Reinforcements at the Perfect Time
Gavi’s return provides a massive tactical and emotional boost for Flick, especially given the current state of the squad:

  • Frenkie de Jong remains out with a distal biceps injury until late March.
  • Pedri and Marc Casadó have been carrying a heavy workload during the recent Champions League fixtures.
  • Marc Bernal, while impressive, is still being managed carefully in his debut season.

Having Gavi’s trademark intensity back on the bench—and potentially on the pitch for the final 15–20 minutes—is seen as vital as Barcelona enters the “final straight” of a neck-and-neck title race with Real Madrid.

A Symbolic Return at the Camp Nou

The club has reportedly planned a special reception for the young Spaniard. With the Spotify Camp Nou recently seeing an increase in capacity, the atmosphere for tomorrow’s 15:15 GMT kickoff is expected to be electric.

If the match situation allows, Flick intends to give Gavi a “cameo” appearance to help him regain match rhythm ahead of the upcoming international break.
