A fan favorite is coming home. Tammy Abraham is set to rejoin Aston Villa from Beşiktaş after a verbal agreement in principle was reached between the clubs.
The 28-year-old striker has already agreed to personal terms on a four-and-a-half-year contract, and he departed Istanbul for England late last night to undergo his medical today.
The Multi-Club Agreement
The deal is a complex “three-way” arrangement involving Roma, Beşiktaş, and Villa:
- The Fee: Aston Villa will pay €21 million (£18.2m) plus performance-related add-ons.
- The Roma Factor: Since Abraham was on loan at Beşiktaş with a mandatory buy clause from Roma, the Turkish club will trigger that purchase to facilitate the immediate sale to Villa. Roma will receive approximately €13 million from the proceedings.
- The “Swap” Element: To finalize the agreement, Villa included 19-year-old Turkish defender Yasin Özcan as part of the package. Özcan will join Beşiktaş on a permanent basis starting this summer.
The Homecoming
Abraham famously scored 26 goals during his loan spell at Villa Park in the 2018/19 season, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League. He arrives as a direct replacement for Donyell Malen, who recently joined Roma.
With directors already in Turkey to sign the final paperwork, the official announcement is expected within the next 24 hours.
