Following a high-stakes meeting this afternoon, PSV Eindhoven have officially informed Ivan Perišić and his representatives that they will not sanction his departure this January. Despite the 36-year-old’s desire for a “Last Dance” return to Inter Milan, the Dutch club has placed a “blockade” on the move.
The situation reached a breaking point following PSV’s heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich last night, which confirmed their elimination from the UEFA Champions League. While Perišić hoped this would ease his exit, the club’s stance has actually hardened.
The Stand-off
- Inter’s Position: The Nerazzurri view Perišić as the perfect short-term solution to their wingback crisis following Denzel Dumfries’ ankle injury. They have personal terms already agreed with the Croatian, but their opening bid was deemed “insufficient” by PSV directors.
- PSV’s Stance: Manager Peter Bosz considers Perišić an “indispensable” leader for the Eredivisie title race. With five goals and ten assists this season, the club is unwilling to lose his experience mid-campaign unless an “extraordinary” offer arrives.
- The Player’s Desire: Perišić is reportedly “desperate” to return to Milan and has even offered to waive certain bonuses to facilitate the deal, but he will not force a move out of respect for the PSV fans.
The Clock is Ticking
Inter remain in constant contact with PSV, hoping that a slightly improved offer in the final 48 hours of the window might change their minds.
However, PSV technical director Earnest Stewart has reiterated that the club is under no financial pressure to sell after the veteran signed a contract extension last June until 2027.
If a deal isn’t struck by Friday’s deadline, Inter are expected to pivot toward Moussa Diaby (Al-Ittihad) or rely on a makeshift solution involving Luis Henrique.
