Atlético Madrid has officially announced that club legend Fernando Torres has signed a new contract, committing his future to the club until 2027.
Torres, who is currently the manager of the Atlético Madrid B team, will continue in his role, extending his coaching journey at his boyhood club.
This renewal underscores Atlético’s faith in “El Niño’s” capabilities as a coach. Torres took charge of the reserve squad, which plays in the Primera Federación (Spain’s third tier), last season and has done a commendable job nurturing young talents.
Atlético B finished 7th in Group 2 of the Primera RFEF this season, showing promising development under his guidance.
Torres began his coaching career within Atlético’s youth setup, first with the Juvenil A coaching staff in the 2021-22 season before becoming head coach of the U19s the following year.
During his time with the youth teams, he helped win two league titles, a Copa de Campeones, and led the team to a strong run in the 2022 UEFA Youth League Final Four.
Many fans see this extension as a strategic move, potentially positioning Torres as a future first-team manager for Atlético Madrid, especially with Diego Simeone’s contract also running until 2027.
