Nottingham, UK – The proposed transfer of Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest to Tottenham Hotspur is now reportedly in serious jeopardy.

Morgan Gibbs-White to Tottenham: Transfer in Jeopardy as Forest Allege Illegal Approach

Nottingham Forest has deemed the deal “OFF for now” and has ceased all communication with Tottenham, as they consult their lawyers over what they believe to be an illegal approach to the player.

According to reports from Sky Sports News, Nottingham Forest explicitly states they never granted permission for Tottenham to speak to Morgan Gibbs-White.

They further allege a breach of confidentiality surrounding his release clause, claiming Tottenham’s bid was pitched at precisely the £60 million figure, suggesting knowledge of the private clause.

This dramatic twist comes after widespread reports, including a “here we go” from Fabrizio Romano, that Tottenham had triggered Gibbs-White’s £60 million release clause and that a medical was booked for today, Friday.

However, Forest’s strong stance has thrown the move into disarray.

While it’s not yet clear if Nottingham Forest can entirely block the transfer, the immediate consequence is a significant delay.

Forest is reportedly preparing a formal complaint to the Premier League regarding Tottenham’s alleged conduct.

Premier League rules are strict regarding approaches to players under contract.

Clubs are generally required to obtain permission from the player’s current club before engaging in direct talks with the player or their representatives.

Breaching these rules can lead to disciplinary action, including fines or even transfer bans.

Morgan Gibbs-White, 25, has been a pivotal player for Nottingham Forest since his £25 million move from Wolves in 2022.

He enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season, contributing seven goals and 10 assists as Forest secured European qualification.

The potential loss of another key player, following Anthony Elanga’s reported £52 million move to Newcastle, would be a significant blow for Forest.

Tottenham, who recently confirmed the signing of Mohammed Kudus for £55 million, will now face an unexpected legal challenge as they attempt to continue their summer recruitment drive under new manager Thomas Frank.

Both clubs have refused to comment on the matter to Sky Sports News, indicating the sensitivity of the situation.

All eyes will now be on the Premier League’s response to Forest’s complaint and how this unprecedented dispute unfolds in the coming days.
