Manchester, UK – Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper has hit a snag, with Aston Villa firmly rejecting an approach for Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez on a loan deal.
The Red Devils had reportedly tabled a temporary move for the World Cup-winning Argentine, but Villa swiftly rebuffed the proposal, underlining their reluctance to part with their star stopper on anything less than a permanent, substantial transfer.
This rejection forces Manchester United, under manager Ruben Amorim, to continue their internal deliberations regarding their goalkeeping strategy.

Among the main names being considered for the younger goalkeeper option is Senne Lammens from Belgian champions Royal Antwerp.

Lammens has openly expressed his positive reaction to the prospect of joining United, and with Antwerp having already signed a new goalkeeper, his departure seems increasingly likely.
While Martínez, valued by Villa at around £40 million, remains a high-profile option, his long-term contract until 2029 and Villa’s insistence on a permanent sale make a deal complicated for United, especially if they are prioritizing funds for other positions.
Some reports have even suggested United were exploring a swap deal for Martínez to avoid an upfront cash outlay.
With pre-season well underway, the pressure is mounting on Manchester United to resolve their goalkeeper situation.
