Manchester, UK – Manchester City have officially agreed a deal to bring promising English goalkeeper James Trafford back to the Etihad, with the highly anticipated “here we go!” confirming the transfer.

Manchester City Re-sign James Trafford as Guardiola Gets His Man

The reigning Premier League champions have struck an agreement with Burnley for a fee reported to be under the £40 million buy-back clause they initially inserted when Trafford left for Turf Moor in 2023.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper has given his personal “yes” to Manchester City’s proposal, driven by the clear desire of manager Pep Guardiola to have him back at the club.

Guardiola reportedly pushed personally for the return of the academy product, seeing him as a vital long-term option in City’s goalkeeping ranks.

This move sees City beat out fierce competition, notably from Newcastle United, who had a longstanding interest in Trafford and even had a verbal agreement with him previously.

Newcastle were informed of Trafford’s decision to re-join his former club, marking another significant transfer race lost for the Magpies this summer.

Trafford’s return comes after an impressive spell at Burnley, where he showcased his talent and maturity.

He will now aim to challenge for a spot in City’s first team, potentially signaling future changes in the club’s goalkeeping department. His re-signing also helps City with their homegrown player quota.

The deal highlights City’s strategic planning and their ability to bring back talent that has developed elsewhere.

For Trafford, it’s a dream return to the club where he spent eight years in the academy, now with the opportunity to play under one of the world’s best managers.
