Manchester City have reportedly made initial contact with Lyon to discuss a potential transfer for Rayan Cherki, targeting the talented 21-year-old for the #10 position.
Cherki is understood to be at the top of City’s wishlist, alongside Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, especially after their pursuit of Florian Wirtz cooled due to financial considerations.
Cherki is reportedly aware of Manchester City’s interest.
He has publicly stated his desire to leave Lyon this summer, and while some sources indicate a “gentleman’s agreement” or an informal understanding of a release clause around £20-25 million, Lyon are reportedly looking for a higher fee, potentially around €40 million, as formal release clauses are not legally recognized in French football.
Despite this, Cherki’s flair, dribbling ability, and impressive goal contributions make him an attractive prospect for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Meanwhile, Morgan Gibbs-White remains a strong contender for City’s attacking midfield requirements.
The 25-year-old Nottingham Forest star, who is under contract until 2027, has also been consistently linked with a move to the Etihad. While Forest are under no pressure to sell, City’s interest is well-documented.
With Kevin De Bruyne’s departure confirmed, City are actively seeking to reinforce their creative options.
