ROME, Italy — The winter transfer market is heating up as AS Roma aggressively pursue Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee.
Recent reports confirm that the Italian giants have advanced in talks regarding personal terms with the 24-year-old Dutch forward, who is eager for a return to Serie A to revitalize his career.
The “Gasperini Effect”
The move is being heavily pushed by Roma’s head coach, Gian Piero Gasperini. Having taken the reins at the Stadio Olimpico earlier this year, Gasperini is reportedly seeking a striker with Zirkzee’s unique profile—technical fluidity and the ability to link play—to spearhead his tactical system.
Zirkzee, who thrived in Italy with Bologna, is said to be “very keen” on the project. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the striker is prioritized finding regular game time, which has been scarce at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.
