The exodus at Selhurst Park continues to gather pace. Jean-Philippe Mateta and his representatives have officially informed Crystal Palace of his desire to leave the club this January.
Following the high-profile departure of captain Marc Guéhi to Manchester City and manager Oliver Glasner’s confirmed summer exit, Mateta is reportedly “furious” that a potential dream move has not yet materialized and is pushing for an immediate change.
The Battle for Mateta
- Juventus: The Italian giants have already agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old on a four-year deal. However, their latest offer—a €2.5m loan with a €30.5m obligation to buy—fell short of Palace’s valuation.
- Aston Villa: Unai Emery has placed Mateta high on his shortlist to replace the recently departed Donyell Malen. Villa are reportedly exploring a “swap plus cash” deal involving Evann Guessand to tempt Palace into selling.
- Crystal Palace Stance: The Eagles are standing firm on a €40m (£35m) asking price. With the club currently competing in the Conference League and facing a transitional period, they are reluctant to lose their top scorer without a massive fee.
