Manchester United have opened discussions with defender Harry Maguire regarding a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in June.

Sources confirm that a face-to-face meeting between the club and Maguire’s representatives took place in recent days, and further discussions are scheduled to continue the negotiation process.

The primary focus of these talks is to iron out the conditions and length of a new agreement. This move signals a significant vote of confidence in the 32-year-old centre-back, who has been a central figure in the team’s defensive structure this season.

United Eager to Reward Contributions and Leadership

The decision to offer a new deal comes as the Manchester United hierarchy expresses clear satisfaction with Maguire’s contribution and leadership both on and off the pitch.

After a period that saw the former captain facing intense media scrutiny, his recent performances have firmly re-established him as an essential member of Erik ten Hag’s squad.

United are keen to reward his professionalism and his ability to rise above adversity. His consistency has been vital, particularly during a demanding run of fixtures where his presence has brought stability to the back line.

By initiating these talks, the club is prioritizing the retention of an experienced player whose influence extends to mentoring the younger defensive players and maintaining high standards in the dressing room.

The ongoing negotiation period is expected to be productive, with both sides keen to find a resolution that secures Maguire’s future at Old Trafford for the coming years.

Maguire’s existing contract, which runs until the end of the 2025/26 season after the club triggered a one-year option earlier this year, sees him currently earning around £140,000-£170,000 per week due to clauses related to European qualification.

His priority remains to stay at the club, but he is also seeking assurance over his role in the squad moving forward.

With the January transfer window looming—when he would be free to negotiate with overseas clubs—Manchester United are keen to resolve the situation swiftly to avoid losing the world’s most expensive defender on a free transfer next summer.
