Frankfurt, Germany / Newcastle upon Tyne, UK – The transfer pursuit of Hugo Ekitike continues to be a major talking point in the European football market, with Eintracht Frankfurt rejecting a substantial official bid from Newcastle United.

Ekitike Saga Rages On: Newcastle's €80m Bid Rejected, Liverpool on Alert as Isak's Future Key

Sources close to the negotiations confirm that Newcastle submitted an offer close to €80 million on Monday, but the Bundesliga club is holding out for an even higher fee.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s tough negotiating stance is well-known, and they appear intent on maximizing their return for the 23-year-old French striker, who had a breakout season, scoring 22 goals in 48 games.

Reports suggest Ekitike has an €86 million release clause, and Frankfurt’s rejection indicates they believe they can achieve a figure closer to that, or even higher, particularly given the structure of Newcastle’s proposed payment terms.

Intriguingly, the situation could have significant ramifications for Liverpool.

The Merseyside club is reportedly monitoring the Ekitike situation with keen interest, and could enter the race for the striker only if Newcastle closes the door to an Alexander Isak exit.

This suggests a potential domino effect, where Liverpool’s move for Ekitike hinges on Newcastle’s ability (or willingness) to retain their Swedish star striker.

Newcastle United, despite the rejected bid, remains actively engaged in pushing for Ekitike’s signature.

However, the club’s financial maneuvers and overall transfer strategy appear heavily dependent on the future of Alexander Isak.

While Newcastle has consistently stated that Isak is not for sale, the mounting pursuit of another high-value forward like Ekitike naturally raises questions about their financial fair play obligations and squad balance.

Some reports even indicate Newcastle’s initial intention was to partner Ekitike with Isak, forming a formidable attacking duo.

As the summer transfer window progresses, all eyes will be on Eintracht Frankfurt’s next move and whether Newcastle will table an improved offer for Ekitike.

Simultaneously, the developments around Alexander Isak’s future at St. James’ Park will be crucial, as they could unlock Liverpool’s potential entry into what is becoming one of the most intriguing striker sagas of the summer.
