Veteran Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea has officially committed his future to Fiorentina, signing a new contract that will keep him at the Serie A club until June 2028.
This comes after significant interest from other top European clubs, notably AS Monaco.
De Gea’s decision to extend his stay in Florence is a testament to his successful resurgence at Fiorentina.
After leaving Manchester United in 2023 and spending a season without a club, he found his stride in Serie A, revitalizing his career with a string of impressive performances that helped Fiorentina to a strong sixth-place finish and a run to the Conference League semi-finals.
Despite approaches from AS Monaco, who were keen to bring him in as their new goalkeeper, De Gea has ultimately chosen to prioritize the project at Fiorentina.
His initial contract with the Viola, signed in August 2024, included an option for an extension in June 2025, which Fiorentina has now triggered and expanded upon to secure his services for an additional three years.
By the time this new deal expires, De Gea will be close to 38 years of age, indicating a long-term commitment from both player and club.
His continued presence will provide vital experience and quality between the posts for Fiorentina as they look to build on their recent successes.
