Atlético Madrid have reached a complete agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the permanent transfer of 28-year-old Argentina international center-back Cristian Romero.

The former Spurs skipper is set to join Diego Simeone’s side after personal terms were fully established on a four-year contract with an option through June 2031.
Deal Structure & Rival Interest
- Financial Package: Atlético will pay a €40 million (£34.2 million) total package including performance-related add-ons. Tottenham have also secured a 15% sell-on clause on any future transfer.
- Failed Pursuits: Inter Milan saw talks stall in July, while Barcelona opted out of pushing for the deal. Tottenham maintained a firm stance throughout that they would not entertain selling their captain to North London rivals Arsenal.
- Spurs Legacy: Romero departs Tottenham after five seasons, during which he logged 156 appearances, scored 13 goals, and captained the side to the 2025 UEFA Europa League title.
