LONDON, UK – Chelsea’s ownership group, BlueCo, has reportedly won the fierce race to sign highly-touted 16-year-old Burkinabé midfielder Muhammad Zongo, beating out major Premier League rivals, including Manchester United and Manchester City.
The agreement, signaled by the famous “here we go!” confirmation, marks a significant victory for the owners’ long-term recruitment strategy.
The deal is finalized with Zongo’s current club, Sporting Cascade FC in Burkina Faso.
The young attacking talent rose to prominence after a series of dazzling performances at the U17 World Cup in Qatar, where he starred for his national team, catching the eye of scouts from across Europe.
Crucially, Zongo will not join Chelsea immediately.
BlueCo sees their French sister club, Strasbourg, as the “perfect setting for his next phase”.
The plan is for the left-footed midfielder to join the Ligue 1 club when he turns 18 in late 2027, allowing him to develop in a top-five European league before potentially making the step up to Stamford Bridge later in his career.
