LONDON, England – The Football Association has fined Chelsea £25,000 for their players’ conduct during the team’s recent 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The fine was imposed after referee Peter Bankes issued a total of six yellow cards to the Blues, including one to manager Enzo Maresca, and a straight red card to goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
According to FA rules, a team that receives six or more cards in a single match is subject to a fine.
This is not the first time Chelsea has faced such a penalty; the club was fined on three occasions last season for similar offenses, with the amount escalating with each instance.
The match at Old Trafford was a heated affair, with both teams ending the game with ten men after United’s Casemiro was also sent off for a second yellow card.
The disciplinary issues add to Chelsea’s rocky start to the season, as they currently sit in the relegation zone after a series of difficult results.
