CAF has handed down a just verdict in the wake of the disgraceful treatment meted out to the Super Eagles during their recent AFCON 2025 qualifier in Libya.

A Disgraceful Incident

The incident, which sparked widespread outrage, saw the Nigerian team subjected to a series of unfortunate events.

The most egregious was the forced diversion of the team’s plane to a remote airport, despite the pilot’s warnings of low fuel levels.

This blatant disregard for player safety and the integrity of the competition was a clear violation of sporting ethics.

CAF’s Strong Stance

In response to these unacceptable actions, CAF’s Disciplinary Board has taken decisive action:

  • Forfeit: The Libya vs. Nigeria match has been awarded to Nigeria with a 3-0 scoreline.
  • Fine: The Libyan Football Federation has been fined $50,000.

This decision not only ensures justice for the Super Eagles but also sends a strong message to all football associations to uphold the highest standards of fair play and sportsmanship.

A Step Closer to AFCON 2025

With these additional points and goals, Nigeria is now one step closer to securing a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles remain committed to representing the nation with pride and determination.
