The transformation of Independiente Medellín into a major talent exporter continues. Just days after finalizing the sale of promising fullback Juan Arizala to Udinese, the Colombian side is now preparing to bid farewell to their star striker, Brayan León.
In a landmark deal for South African football, León is set to join Mamelodi Sundowns in a package worth $3.5 million (approximately R58 million).
The agreement also includes a sell-on clause, ensuring Medellín profits from any future move the 25-year-old makes.
Why Sundowns Broke the Bank
Known as “The Brazilians” for their affinity for South American talent, Sundowns identified León as the final piece of their attacking puzzle.

León’s arrival is expected to have an immediate impact on the Sundowns frontline, providing stiff competition for club legend Peter Shalulile and record-signing Arthur Sales.
With one foreign-player registration slot still available, León is expected to be integrated into the squad immediately upon his arrival in Pretoria.
For Independiente Medellín, these back-to-back sales of Arizala and León represent a significant financial windfall, though they now face the challenge of replacing their most productive offensive outlet mid-season.
