London, UK – Arsenal have successfully agreed a deal to sign highly-rated 17-year-old striker Will Wright from Salford City, beating out strong competition from several other top clubs, including Liverpool.
Documents are now being prepared to finalize the transfer for the promising young talent.
The Gunners have reportedly offered a package of around £250,000 (€295,000) plus add-ons for Wright, significantly outbidding Liverpool, who were initially considered front-runners for his signature with an offer reported to be around £100,000.
Other Premier League clubs such as Manchester City, Brentford, Leicester City, and Burnley had also shown interest in the prolific forward.
Wright, who stands at 6ft 3in, has been a sensation in Salford City’s youth ranks, scoring over 50 goals across various age groups last season.
He also made his first-team debut in January and went on to make four senior appearances for the League Two side, impressing with his composure and goal-scoring instincts.
He’s continued his fine form in pre-season, bagging four goals in recent friendlies.
The acquisition of Wright aligns with Arsenal’s strategy under academy manager Per Mertesacker to actively recruit top young talent for their renowned Hale End academy.
It’s expected that Wright will initially join Arsenal’s Under-18 and Under-21 squads, with potential opportunities in the UEFA Youth League.
This move marks a significant step up for the Preston-born striker, who was scouted from non-league sides Euxton Villa and Fylde just two years ago.
