Villarreal, Spain – Ghanaian international midfielder Thomas Partey has completed a move to Spanish club Villarreal on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old, who became available after his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June, has signed a two-year deal with the La Liga side.
The transfer marks a return to Spain for Partey, who previously spent seven years with Atlético Madrid before his move to Arsenal in 2020.
A key factor in his decision was the opportunity to continue playing UEFA Champions League football, which Villarreal secured after a strong La Liga campaign last season.
Partey has already completed his medical ahead of the proposed move and is expected to be officially unveiled in the coming days.
His experience, versatility in midfield, and familiarity with Spanish football are expected to be valuable assets for Villarreal’s new coach Marcelino García Toral as they prepare for a demanding season both domestically and in Europe.
Despite his departure from Arsenal, Partey remained a regular fixture for the club last season, making 52 appearances in all competitions.
His signing adds a significant layer of quality to Villarreal’s midfield as they look to build on their recent success and compete at the highest level.
