Sevilla FC have officially announced the appointment of Matías Almeyda as their new head coach.

The Argentine, a former player for the club, has signed a three-year contract, taking the helm of the La Liga side after a challenging season that saw them battle relegation.
Almeyda, 51, returns to Sevilla where he previously played for one season in 1996.
He now embarks on a new chapter in La Liga, bringing a wealth of managerial experience from various leagues across the globe.
His coaching journey has seen him manage:
- River Plate (Argentina): Led his boyhood club back to the top flight.
- Banfield (Argentina): Achieved another promotion.
- Guadalajara (Mexico): Enjoyed significant success, winning multiple domestic trophies including a Liga MX title, two Copa MX titles, a Supercopa MX, and the CONCACAF Champions League.
- San Jose Earthquakes (MLS, USA): Implemented his distinctive man-marking system.
- AEK Athens (Greece): Achieved a domestic double (Super League Greece and Greek Cup) in his first season (2022/23), and continued to challenge for titles.
Almeyda is known for his intense, passionate, and tactically adaptable coaching style.
His teams often play with a high press, emphasize man-to-man marking, and aim for fast counter-attacks.
He also has a strong reputation for motivating players and fostering a family-like environment within his squads.
His appointment is seen as the personal choice of Sevilla’s new sporting director, Antonio Cordón. Almeyda is the seventh Argentine manager in Sevilla’s history, joining a distinguished list.
He will not physically arrive in Seville until July, but his duties have already begun.
His immediate challenge will be to revitalize a Sevilla squad that finished 17th in La Liga last season, just one point above the relegation zone.
