The move has received the green light from the player, and he will now travel to the FIFA Club World Cup with his new team.

Bettinelli, 33, joins City to replace Scott Carson, who recently departed the club after six years.

While Bettinelli did not make a single competitive appearance for Chelsea since joining in 2021, he was highly valued for his leadership and positive influence in the dressing room.

He signed a three-year contract extension with Chelsea in March 2023, valid until June 2026, but will now see out the remainder of that contract with City.

The transfer comes just as the first summer transfer window closes, allowing City to register Bettinelli in time for the Club World Cup.

His acquisition fulfills City’s need for an experienced, homegrown third-choice goalkeeper to support Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

For Chelsea, Bettinelli’s departure creates another vacancy in their goalkeeping ranks, though they have been actively pursuing AC Milan’s Mike Maignan.

For Bettinelli, it’s a continuation of his role as a reliable and experienced backup at a top Premier League club, with the added bonus of participating in the prestigious Club World Cup.
