Bergamo, Italy – Tuesday, April 15, 2025 – Former Manchester United Football Director John Murtough has been appointed as Atalanta’s new Director of Global Development.

The Serie A club officially announced the appointment today, confirming Murtough will immediately take up the role within their sporting department.
Murtough’s arrival in Bergamo comes shortly after his departure from Old Trafford, where he spent nearly 11 years in various senior roles, culminating in his position as Football Director.
In his new role at Atalanta, the 54-year-old English executive will report directly to Sporting Director Tony D’Amico.
His primary focus will be on enhancing the club’s international strategy and overall global vision. This marks Murtough’s first professional experience in Italian football.
Atalanta, the reigning Europa League champions, are demonstrating their ambition to grow as an international brand with this significant appointment.
Murtough’s extensive experience in English football, including roles at Everton, Fulham, Coventry City, and the Premier League itself, is expected to be a valuable asset to the club.
The Percassi and Pagliuca families, who own Atalanta, along with the entire club, have extended a warm welcome to John Murtough and wished him success in his new endeavor.
