ALMATY, Kazakhstan – Real Madrid midfielder and vice-captain Fede Valverde has delivered a brutally honest self-assessment, admitting to deep frustration with his current form as the club navigates what he calls a “new project” under head coach Xabi Alonso.

The Uruguayan international faced the media in Almaty, Kazakhstan, ahead of a critical Champions League match, where he addressed his recent struggles following a disappointing defeat in the Madrid derby.
“I’m frustrated. I’m aware of how I’m playing. A player knows when he’s not doing things right on the pitch.”
Valverde highlighted that while he initially flourished in the new tactical system, he has recently found it challenging to maintain that consistency.
“I started well in this new project but now it’s been harder for me to feel comfortable. I’ll continue to give my all as captain, on and off it.”
Valverde’s candid comments are seen as a move to rally the dressing room and take personal accountability for the team’s recent dip in performance.
His promise to “give my all as captain” is a direct challenge to his teammates to match his commitment as they seek to immediately turn their form around on the continental stage.
