Brentford’s influential forward, Bryan Mbeumo (25), has expressed his astonishment at being nominated for the prestigious Premier League Player of the Season award, admitting it felt “crazy” to see his name among the contenders.

“I didn’t really expect it. I know I had a good season, but I was surprised when I saw my name,” the Cameroon international told BBC Sport. Mbeumo has enjoyed a stellar campaign, contributing significantly to Brentford’s efforts, with 18 goals and 7 assists in 36 league appearances.
His consistent performances have helped propel the Bees to a strong position in the league table, even putting them in contention for European qualification.
Mbeumo joined Brentford from French Ligue 2 club Troyes in August 2019 for a reported £5.8 million. Since then, he has been a pivotal figure in their remarkable journey from the Championship to an established Premier League side.
His progression mirrors that of the club, showcasing the shrewd recruitment and development philosophy at Brentford.
He has become the club’s second-highest Premier League goalscorer since their promotion, demonstrating his enduring impact.
The nomination is a testament to Mbeumo’s hard work, dedication, and the quality he has consistently displayed.
While he faces stiff competition from other top players on the shortlist, his inclusion highlights his standing as one of the league’s most effective attackers.
