MADRID, SPAIN – Atlético Madrid has completed the signing of 18-year-old Spanish attacker Hugo Humanes from Inter Milan’s youth system. The deal, which is effective immediately, sees the highly-rated teenager return to the Spanish capital to join the Colchoneros Academy at their Alcalá de Henares training center.
Humanes, who turns 19 in January, is widely regarded as one of the most versatile offensive talents of his generation. While primarily an attacking midfielder, his physicality and technical skill allow him to excel as a secondary striker or a left winger.
His arrival is seen as a major coup for Atlético, as they look to bolster their reserve ranks with players capable of breaking into Diego Simeone’s first-team squad in the near future.
A Return to Madrid via Milan
Humanes’ move to the Metropolitano is particularly significant due to his background with Atlético’s cross-town rivals:
- Real Madrid “Jewel”: Before his move to Italy in August 2023, Humanes was a standout performer in Real Madrid’s La Fábrica, scoring over 100 goals during his time in their youth ranks.
- The Inter Chapter: He moved to Inter Milan at age 16 for a reported fee of around €1 million. During his time in Italy, he became a regular for the Inter Primavera (U20) side and featured prominently in the UEFA Youth League, impressing with his vision and progressive carrying.
- Immediate Integration: Unlike many youth deals, Humanes is joining with immediate effect, meaning he will be eligible to feature for Atlético’s Juvenil A or Atleti B sides as soon as the winter registration window opens.
By securing Humanes, Atlético has successfully brought back one of the city’s most promising talents who was once considered the “crown jewel” of the Real Madrid academy. His familiarity with the city and his experience in a high-pressure environment like Inter’s Primavera makes him a low-risk, high-reward addition to the club’s long-term project.
