ROME — AS Roma are transforming their frontline this January. Following the breakthrough for French starlet Robinio Vaz, the Giallorossi are now closing in on a deal for Aston Villa’s Donyell Malen to complete an ambitious attacking overhaul.

Sporting Director Frederic Massara returned from France today after successfully finalizing the details for Vaz.
With that deal secured, the club’s full attention has shifted to Malen, with “growing optimism” that the Dutch international will arrive in the capital before the weekend.
The Malen Formula
Negotiations with Aston Villa progressed significantly late last night. While Unai Emery was initially reluctant to lose the 26-year-old mid-season, Malen’s desire for consistent starts ahead of the 2026 World Cup has paved the way for an exit.
- Structure: A 6-month loan until June 2026.
- The Option: Roma will hold an option to buy for €25m–€28.5m (£21m–£24m).
- The Competition: Massara’s swift movement was designed to fend off late interest from Atlético Madrid, who reportedly made an enquiry just 48 hours ago.
Robinio Vaz: “The First Piece”
Earlier today, Massara landed in Rome accompanied by Robinio Vaz and his representatives. The 18-year-old sensation from Marseille is set to undergo his medical tomorrow morning at Villa Stuart.
- Fee: €20m guaranteed plus €5m in bonuses.
- Contract: A four-and-a-half-year deal running until 2030.
- Arrival: Vaz is expected at Ciampino airport this evening to finalize the “green light” from OM.
