The Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) has secured its next national team manager. Former Netherlands captain and Royal Antwerp boss Mark van Bommel has reached a total verbal agreement to take over as head coach of the Belgium national team on a contract running through June 2028.
With all terms approved between the KBVB technical committee and Van Bommel’s camp, only final signatures and the formal presentation remain.
Replacing Rudi Garcia After World Cup Campaign
The 49-year-old Dutch tactician steps into the hot seat to succeed Rudi Garcia, who departed the role following Belgium’s quarter-final exit against eventual champions Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
- The Vision: KBVB Technical Director Vincent Mannaert prioritized Van Bommel due to his familiarity with Belgian football, sharp tactical organization, and strong man-management.
- The Cycle: His two-year contract targets building a cohesive unit capable of qualifying for and contending at UEFA Euro 2028.

This marks Van Bommel’s first job in senior international management following successful spells in club football:
