Lionel Messi has officially announced his retirement from international football, drawing a close to his legendary 21-year career with the Argentina national team.
The 39-year-old icon confirmed the decision in an emotional statement posted on Instagram on Monday, stating that he has reached a point where he has “nothing more to give” and that it is time to pave the way for the next generation of Argentine talent.
His final appearance for La Albiceleste came during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Spain.
