In one of the most significant moves of the January window for Argentine football, Valentín Carboni is set to join Racing de Avellaneda on loan from Inter Milan.

The 20-year-old playmaker, a 2024 Copa América champion with Argentina, is returning to his home country in search of the consistent playing time he struggled to find during his recent loan spell at Genoa.

The Details of the Deal

The agreement between the two historic clubs is straightforward but strategic. Following high-level discussions between Racing President Diego Milito and Inter Vice President Javier Zanetti, the clubs have settled on the following structure:

  • Duration: A one-year loan deal.
  • No Buy Option: Inter Milan remain firmly convinced of Carboni’s long-term potential. By excluding a purchase clause, the Nerazzurri ensure they retain full control over the player’s future.
  • Recalling from Genoa: To facilitate this move, Carboni’s current loan at Genoa will be terminated early.
    Eyeing the 2026 World Cup

For Carboni, the motivation behind the move is clear: The 2026 World Cup. Despite being highly rated by Lionel Scaloni, his lack of minutes in Serie A this season threatened his place in the national team setup.

By joining Racing, Carboni steps into a high-pressure, competitive environment where he is expected to be a focal point of the attack.

Under the guidance of Gustavo Costas and the mentorship of a club legend like Milito, Carboni has the perfect platform to rediscover the form that made him one of Europe’s most sought-after teenagers.
