In a massive statement of intent for the future, FC Bayern Munich have won the race for 16-year-old Austrian prodigy Matteo Silvio Marić.
While several of Europe’s elite—including Chelsea and Real Madrid—were monitoring the situation, Bayern have successfully navigated “advanced negotiations” to land the RB Salzburg midfielder.
The deal, confirmed as “signed and sealed” by sources including Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano late on Thursday, March 5, 2026, marks Bayern’s first official piece of business for the upcoming summer window.
The Details: Why the Move Happened
Marić is widely considered the brightest jewel in the Austrian youth system. Despite RB Salzburg’s desperate attempts to extend his stay, the player’s camp reportedly insisted on a specific release clause that the “Red Bull” hierarchy was unwilling to grant.
Sensing the opportunity, Bayern’s sporting directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund—both of whom have deep ties to the Salzburg ecosystem—moved aggressively to finalize the transfer.
- Fee: Bayern will pay a “small compensation fee” (training allowance) to Salzburg.
- Role: Marić is initially slated to join the Bayern Campus (Academy), with plans to integrate him into the U17 and U19 setups.
- Style: A technically gifted attacking playmaker, Marić has drawn comparisons to a young Jamal Musiala due to his vision, close control, and “football intelligence.”
The “Red Bull” Connection Continues
The acquisition of Marić is part of a broader strategic shift at the Säbener Straße. Under the guidance of René Marić (Team Lead for Coaching Development), the club is increasingly targeting high-ceiling talents from the Austrian and German youth leagues before their market value explodes.
Last season, the youngster’s stats were nothing short of staggering, recording 20 goals in just 12 games for Salzburg’s U15s before being fast-tracked into the U18 Jugendliga.
A New Star in Munich
Marić will officially move to Munich this summer, where he will reside at the club’s youth boarding school. For Bayern fans, this is more than just an academy signing—it’s the procurement of a player many scouts believe will be a first-team regular by 2028.
