HERE WE GO: Marc-André ter Stegen to Girona!

It’s a total agreement. After receiving the “green light” from the player last week, Girona and Barcelona have now reached a verbal agreement in principle for the loan of Marc-André ter Stegen until the end of the season.

HERE WE GO: Marc-André ter Stegen to Girona!

The deal has moved rapidly following Ter Stegen’s realization that his starting spot at Barça was no longer guaranteed under Hansi Flick, especially with the emergence of Joan García.

The Agreement Breakdown

  • The Deal: A straight loan until June 30, 2026. No buy option or mandatory clause is included, as Barça still view him as their captain long-term.
  • The Wages: In a massive gesture to make the move happen, Ter Stegen agreed to “forgive” a portion of his salary. Barcelona will reportedly cover 90% of his wages, with Girona paying a contribution of approximately €1 million.
  • The Motivation: Ter Stegen’s priority is to remain the #1 for Germany at the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Staying in Catalonia also allows him to remain close to his family.

What’s Next?

Formal documents are being prepared today, and the German shot-stopper is expected to undergo his medical and sign the contract later this week.
Girona’s goal is to have him registered and available to debut at Montilivi against Getafe on Monday, January 26.
