MANCHESTER, UK / NAPLES, ITALY – Serie A champions Napoli remain highly attentive to the situation surrounding Manchester United’s young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, leading a group of over 10 clubs reportedly keen on securing his signature in the upcoming January transfer window.

The interest is driven by Mainoo’s lack of regular first-team minutes at Old Trafford and Napoli’s current midfield injury crisis.
Napoli, managed by Antonio Conte, views the 20-year-old as a primary target to address severe midfield shortages following injuries to key players like Kevin De Bruyne and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.
Sources in Italy even suggest that negotiations for a transfer, potentially a loan-to-buy, have progressed significantly.
However, any deal is complicated by the position of Manchester United manager Rubén Amorim.
Amorim is reluctant to sanction the departure of any player, including Mainoo, due to the impending Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2026 tournament, which will see several key players leave the squad.
Manchester United is set to lose key African stars, including Player of the Month Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon), Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco), and Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast), during the crucial December/January fixture period.
Amorim insists he will only consider letting Mainoo leave if the club can secure a replacement, highlighting the internal struggle between the player’s desire for game time and the club’s immediate need for squad depth.
