The 37-year-old, currently captaining Inter Miami CF, is set to hang up his boots in the coming weeks, with the MLS playoffs providing the final matches of his storied career.

The news was confirmed by the club and the player himself, who shared an emotional video message on social media.

“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,”

Busquets stated. His decision brings to a close a nearly two-decade-long career spent operating at the very pinnacle of the sport, a journey that began when Pep Guardiola promoted him to the FC Barcelona first team in 2008.

Busquets’ legacy is permanently etched into the golden eras of both club and country.

At FC Barcelona, he won an astonishing 32 major trophies, including nine La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League crowns, forming part of the legendary midfield trio alongside Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta.

For the Spanish national team, he earned 143 caps, playing a pivotal role as the midfield anchor for the squads that clinched the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA Euro 2012.

After leaving his boyhood club in 2023, the iconic holding midfielder joined Inter Miami CF, where he quickly reunited with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez.

His tactical intelligence and composure instantly elevated the MLS side, helping them lift the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.

As Busquets prepares for his farewell, he aims to conclude his career on a high note by leading the Herons in their push for the club’s first-ever MLS Cup title.
