TRABZON, TURKEY – A deal for Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana to join Turkish side Trabzonspor is now in its final stages.

A loan agreement has been reached between the two clubs, with all contracts now signed on the player’s side. The move is expected to be finalized this week, with travel scheduled for the coming days.

The transfer will see Onana move to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan with no buy option or loan fee included.

This structure, which was revealed to have been in the works since Saturday, allows the Turkish club to acquire the goalkeeper without a financial outlay.

The deal also reportedly includes a significant pay increase for Onana.

For Manchester United, the loan move provides a solution for a player who has fallen out of favor under manager Ruben Amorim and lost his starting spot to Altay Bayindir.

Onana’s departure follows a string of high-profile errors since his arrival in 2023, and a poor performance in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby cemented his place as second-choice.

The loan offers Onana a chance to regain form and confidence away from the intense scrutiny of the Premier League.

With the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday, the official announcement is expected imminently, as the final step of counter-approval from Trabzonspor’s side is all that remains.
