Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian international forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The £62.5 million deal has been completed, making Cunha the first major summer signing for the Red Devils.

Cunha, 26, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, with the option of an additional year, tying him to Old Trafford until at least June 2030, with the potential to extend to June 2031.

United activated a release clause in Cunha’s Wolves contract earlier this month, and the transfer has now been fully completed after successfully navigating a visa process and medical examination.

“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” Cunha told the club’s official website.

“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team, and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.”

Cunha leaves Wolves after a highly productive period, where he scored 31 goals in 76 appearances across all competitions.

His versatility, ability to play across the front line, and strong Premier League experience are expected to be key assets for manager Ruben Amorim as he looks to rebuild the squad.

Director of Football Jason Wilcox added: “Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window.

He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany.

He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”

This signing signals Manchester United’s aggressive approach to the transfer market as they aim to improve upon their 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
